:: An interview with Hakim Aziz-ur-Rehman ::

Nasir Butt Hakim Aziz traces out the problems arising because of the quacks who are playing with the lives of common people

Hundreds of decades have already been passed but still quacks are alive to play with the lives innocent people. They have been giving fatal medical treatment to those ignorant people who are not aware of the dangers of so called spiritual and botanic health supplements. Government should conduct a crackdown on the Hakims (Botanic medicine practitioners) who are practicing without having any certificate from any recognized Tibbia college to save the people from so-called family Hakims or quacks.

Principal Tibbia College and famous botanic medicine practitioner Hakim Aziz ur Rehman Jigranwi expressed these views during an interview with The Post. He said government should get registered all the Hakims and botanic medicine practitioners to avert massive spread of Hepatitis and kidney diseases.

Hakim Aziz ur Rehman further asserted that a permanent ban on the practice of such persons who are not qualified from a recognized botanic medicine institute should be imposed, otherwise the culture of 'Kushtas' (a tonic prepared for sexual power enhancement) would continue and people become victim of kidney and lever diseases. The imposition of this ban would be a blessing for the masses as majority of our population still believes in botanic medicine and trapped by the quacks who fed them poisonous Kushtas that directly damage the human kidneys and lever.

Principal Tibbia College said that certain families had established domination in the field of botanic medicine before partition and this domination continues and afresh research work could not be done in this field, otherwise there is no disease that is considered as incurable. He said that government in Pakistan has never extended support to this field owing to which we could not establish credibility of this method of diagnosing diseases.

He said that in term of modern research and lab testing we are far behind in the research of botanic medicine and if government extends cooperation, allocate funds for research then we can perform better than any other country. However, he said that government and health departments could settle modalities by negotiating with representatives of botanic medicine practitioners and Hakims.

Famous botanic medicine practitioner Hakim Aziz ur Rehman Jigranwi said though government did confer grade 16 to the hakims and appoint them in hospitals but practically no hakim was facilitated there. He said there was need to accommodate qualified Hakims in the hospitals and public sector health institutions.

Regarding massive spread and causes of hepatitis in our society, Hakim Aziz ur Rehman Jigranwi said that as per allopathic therapy, it is because of a virus, while, Greek medicine and botanic medicine practitioners consider it a problem that disturbed the lever functioning , disorder in the stomach and some times mental tensions also behind this disease.Hakim Jigranwi said that Hakim Jalinoss in his book Qulyat-e-Qanoon (principals of diagnosing) explained that this disease erupted because of lever shrinking. He, however, said that Greek and botanic therapy has 99 per cent result oriented diagnosing.

He said that he, as the principal of tibia College has eliminated the degree awarding practices without attending classes and has reorganize the college syllabus. He said that they are going to establish a 50 bed hospital cum college at an area of 20 acres where MBBS doctors and Tibbia College hakims would jointly serve the masses. Hakim Jigranwi said that he has made arrangements to prepare the students of Tibbia College to read lab test reports to diagnose accurately.

He said that two foreign institutes including Atlantic Site College Ireland and House of Botanic research Canada has invited him to deliver lectures on botanic research and way of diagnosing.

He said that a Hakim could trace through pulse, fever, kidney disorders, liver malfunctioning, intestinal diseases, Pregnancy, blood pressure, sugar level, cardiac problems, tumors and psychological problems. He said that many people are coming to Botanic medicine field and it is improving day by day but our government is not helping in this field.

He said that Tibbia College is working since 1864. It is the first institute of Tibb and offers 4 year course. It teaches about all the diseases anatomy and psychology is also taught there.
