:: Exhibition at BNU ::

By Raja Mahmood Iqbal

Beauty lies not only in the eyes of beholder but in the thoughts and imagination when it comes to the people having artistic and aesthetic sense. Education not only develops the artistic ability in a student it teaches him greater appreciation of art as well.

Last week a colourful and elating exhibition of such young enthusiastic people with developed aesthetic sense was held at Beacon House University Lahore in which a total of nine students displayed their theses.

Ms. Sundas a student of last semester created and displayed an environment by taking inspirations from the designs of candies. She intended to create the environment for café's. She used light and colourful papers for the purpose. This young and talented lady depicted a thesis of an enchanted ambience, which took her five months to prepare. Using cascading hues and taking inspirations purely from images depicting childhood innocence, she created the interior decoration effect she wanted.

Ms. Naintara Khan displayed a colourful abstract work of her past and future as she imagined and fanaticized them to be. She worked on fabric panel with watercolours and she completed her painting within three weeks. Her thesis presented beautiful images of her memories and dreams of her future which momentarily transports viewers on a flight to their own past and future..

Maria Khan displayed her thesis on Mughal era tents. Her work was a painting on cloth. She used her imagination along with her research in her work. Her work was fascinating and I believe even a Mughal emperor would have applauded her work if any he was still around.

Ms. Amna worked on the theme of sunflowers associated with Greek myth. This young and talented lady claimed that the whole of her work was original and was not copied. These were her drawings and composition without taking any inspirations. She skillfully visualized and depicted the Greek mythology in association with sun flowers. She used paint and digital print to compose her work. She completed her work in four weeks.

Ms. Faaiza Yusuf depicted the theme of the allure of after images. She beautifully portrayed lamp posts on flex with different mediums of papers. She displayed the importance of electric lamps by depicting that on roads they come after every two minutes and sometimes even after a few seconds but they are ignored. Their importance is realised only during power failure.

Miss Zainab Cheema's themes topic was, me on a musical voyage. The soul song for my true inspiration is voyagers. I am feeling three feelings that are mysterious, wild and void. I am depicting it through a special shaped tuned she said. She completed her thesis from January to May 28th by using the materials like surade pipes, polyester strings, jute, hand made papers and aluminum sheets.

Ms. Sman Tariq worked on the theme of the earthquake that hit the northern areas of Pakistan on 8th October 2005. She stated, "I've attempted to revisit the anguish, and want the viewer to hark back and relieve the experience, albeit if only for a few moments."

Ms. Sadaf Yousaf beautifully tried to depict the way she explored people around her and make the viewers see things in the same way they does. She focused on hypocrisy and self-centeredness. She symbolized all these social evils with yellow, red and blue colors and the lines of these colors ended up into a creepy and ambiguous form of things that depicted the personalities of such people. She also depicted the restrictions and boundaries of the society in her presentation of the thesis.

Last but not the least Kashif Akram created an environment related to the present political scenario of Pakistan. In fact this radical young lad tried to create the whole situation of Pakistan into a little tent named Faujistan. The student is actually a textile designer, but he feels strongly about political issues so he chose this theme.
